Our 2016 Northern Lite Truck Camper

"Home is where we park it"

This photo was taken earlier today at Pioneer Park in the town John grew up in, Newport, MN. We stopped to play after filling up on propane and water for the next few days. The weather is starting to get warmer so we won't be spending much time at all inside the camper. We are usually only inside to sleep, eat, and shower/get ready. We might spend an hour a day watching YouTube or Netflix, but that is usually while we are eating some yummy vegan food.

It looks like an extremely small space to store everything you need for daily use, but we feel it is more than enough room. If you are pondering full time RVing and you are going from a 2,000sq ft home to a truck camper, you would have a lot of trouble getting rid of everything, and knowing what is important to keep. Fortunately, we didn't make the jump from a big house to a truck camper overnight.

We started out living in a 1500sq ft townhouse. It wasn't fully furnished though. We had one bedroom that was completely empty. We don't really collect much stuff we don't need. We sold the town house when our daughter was 6 months old and we bought a smaller house (900sq ft) that we were planning on living in for a few years. We watched a documentary on earth ships a few months after we moved in and it blew our minds. We wanted to be able to save money for land and an earth ship, and that meant getting rid of our mortgage. We started thinking about full time camper living. Our family bought a 22ft travel trailer for $5000. It didn't come with a bathroom, so we had a guy put one in, and then we moved into it last November. After spending a few months in it, and John dealing with a long commute to work from the RV park we lived in, we realized it was right for us anymore.

We started searching for the best truck camper, that doesn't leak, and can handle winter well. There were also other features we were looking for like solar panels, wet bath, lighter weight, and no slide outs. We wanted something that can fit in a normal parking spot if you have to. The Northern Lite 9-6 was what we wanted. The only problem was that the nearest dealer was located in Idaho. John managed to get 4 days off work and the 3 of us and our 2 dogs went to Idaho to get our new house. We drove nonstop to get there and just spent one night there while the dealer hooked everything up. It was a beautiful trip. We love our 2016 Northern Lite! It has been almost 2 months now and am still excited that I get to live in this. It has everything we need: a toilet, shower, stove, oven, freezer, fridge, sink, 2 beds, both seating, TV, lights, and storage. This truck camper makes it easy for us to live close to what we love, each other and nature. Here is a link to the tour of our truck camper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csQ-U7ZNc0s
